| RELIEF EFFORTS IN NORTH KARNATAKA - ACTIVITIES UNDERWAY (Oct 10 2009) |
Art of Living Foundation has taken up the relief work on a massive scale. It has taken up task of comprehensive rehabilitation of entire 60 villages.
According to Param Poojya Sri Sri RaviShankar Guruji, the food and money given to the villages will only be useful, when the trauma which they have gone through, is reduced. For this dedicated Yuvacharyas are working in these villages, conducting Healing Breath workshops (also called “Nav Chethan Shibirs”). These yuvacharyas are dedicated youth in age group 22-35, who are working fulltime in the rural Karnataka for the Divine Karnataka Project of the Art of Living Foundation.
The Healing Breath workshops help these villagers to reduce the trauma and give them the strength to focus on rebuilding their lives. Other immediate relief activities such as setting up relief camps for homeless, food, medical care are being taken care of. An assessment of the villager’s short term and long term needs are done by these yuvacharyas. Based on the assessment needs the relevant actions are being currently undertaken.
Currently Art of Living volunteers are working in 10 villages of Bagalkot, 2 villages of Raichur and 10 villages of Bijapur. The plan is also to expand scope of work to more villages as soon as possible. As per the request of the Raichur Administrator Ameer Shukla (CEO), temporary shelter is being constructed for the people of 2 villages.
